Summer vacation is a great time to learn another language. Time away from the classroom can still be spent strengthening children’s cognitive and sensory processing though language immersion classes or private tutoring sessions. Learning a second or third language helps to set our little ones up for success on an academic and global stage (more than half of the world’s population is bilingual and the ability to speak at least two languages!).
Not only do "bilingual children outperform monolingual children on tasks that tap into executive function," like reasoning, flexible problem solving, and attention control, but the young learners who are raised or taught in a bilingual environment show higher levels of empathy, are more cognitively flexible and detail oriented than their monolingual counterparts, and are better able to switch between mental tasks.
